The Sacred Rules of Management
How to Get Control of Your Time and Your Work
by Stanley E. Smith

Rules from “Managing Your Projects”

MANAGE YOUR PROJECT TIME WELL.

50 Try to finish projects just in time—
on time, but not by much.

Do meet your deadlines. Other people very likely depend on your getting your work done on time. Try not to be greatly in advance of your deadlines, however, since your results in that case may be less up-to-date or in some other way less useful.

MEET CRISES CALMLY AND DIRECTLY.

54 Sleep on important
decisions.

Getting a night’s sleep before making an important decision gives your subconscious a chance to work on the decision. A new solution, or at least a new facet of the problem, may be apparent in the morning, and the final decision will be made by a rested mind. Waiting overnight before checking and sending an important document can be a wise precaution as well.
